Update

The Shooting is over. It took place at the EastSide Gallery just as initially planned and was beautiful. About 30-40 people joined the magic and we gonna see the results soon - yeah!

My 2,5 Cents:

Introduction in English

Hi, Welcome to my Wiki ;)

There is an Art-Project called I DREAM from Trustart.org aka Justin Tellian.

I DREAM is doing a big Photo-Shooting in Berlin on November 14, 2009:

Image Galleries of Spots:

East Side Gallery

The "official" plan seems to be takin' Pics on the EastSide-Gallery. I think there could be better spots. Why? Scroll down.

Maybe the BACKSIDE of the renovated EastSide-Gallery, because it is still absolutely white/grey and clean. So it could be a nice shot to have the dreamers in front of a giant empty canvas. Technical "Problem": the wall is not that high, it's long, but not high. So the Photo would have to have a very large width compared to the height - and that again maybe won't look that cool. Maybe.

UPDATE: Okay. If we could place People in front of the Wall & ON TOP of the Wall - the Picture-"Height" could be enhanced. The Problem is that the surroundings of the Eastside-Gallery actually don't look neither beautiful nor interesting nor berlin-like. So - i guess - we only want PEOPLE + WALL + SKY on the final image. And don't forget: YOU NEED AN OFFICIAL PERMISSION TO DO A SHOOTING on public ground - especially if it's on the brand-new "holy" wall and you want to place people on it.

Rugged Walls close to the East Side Gallery

There are many big "ripped" brick-house-walls close-by - maybe that would look better, more rugged, more like the Berlin we love. And these rugged house-block-walls are well suited for a shooting in HEIGHT and in WIDTH.

Yeah - i must admit - they are already painted. If we want a clean-contrast-background - we maybe have to look for some other place - an old, rotten, but unpainted wall - maybe... ...oops, sorry, no unpainted walls available in berlin ;)

Rugged Wall "Köpenicker Str.32"

Address: Köpenicker Str.32

Rugged Wall "Golden Handcuffs of Time"

Address: Schlesische Str.34

Maybe under the big "Golden Handcuffs"-Mural by Blu:

Graffiti golden-chains-of-time.jpg

Maybe get Permission to do a Giant Mural especially for the Shooting on one of those Rugged-House-Walls. For Example the Word "DREAM" in - ahm - uh - really, really, really BIG Letters.

YAAM

YAAM is a famous, if not legendary open-air-reggae-outdoor-chill-grill-sport-beach location directly next to the eastside gallery. They are always open for cool projects and can be contacted easily via Website:

They got painted graffiti walls and enough space for shootings - and as it's their property, you won't even need a shooting permit from the city ;)

Other Section of the Wall: Chausseestraße / Grenzübergang

Quote from here:

Sounds interesting... ...didn't check 'til now...

Rent a Roof - Rooftop-Shooting

Different-Angle. Everybody loves Berlin-Rooftop-Panorama-Shots. Alexanderplatz-Tower in the Background. DREAM-Flag flying in the Wind. 100 frozen Berliners ;)

Okay. We would need a roof that can bear a lot of people.

Hotel Roofs

A big Hotel might do - maybe the Park Inn - they even got that strange base-flying-platform on top - where a dreamer could jump down ;)

Car-Park on Top of Shopping-Center "Neukölln Arcaden"

The upper two storey are almost always empty.

Looks like this:

Address:

Parkhaus Neukölln Arcaden
Karl-Marx-Str. 66
12043 Berlin

Classical Location: Berlin World-Time-Clock @ Alexanderplatz

Public, Central, Classic.

Looks like this.

Other Ideas

Or Maybe even something really gigantic - like the background-wall in the NY-Brooklyn-Shooting.

  • ... rendering ...
  • ... what about the Brandenburger Tor (the big Gate-Thingy in Central Berlin)
  • ... or the classical Motive of the TV-Tower at Alexanderplatz ...
  • ... processing ...

Fighting for Creative Usage of the Wall as a Living Memorial

The Wall and the Art on the wall / Eastside Gallery was renovated for 1000000 € in 2009. Now it's nice and clean - and dead.

In 2008 me and some friends tried to turn the Eastside Gallery into a living Memorial (the Concept Website lives on), where Artists would take turn bringing up new interpretations of the underlying layers in calendar-rotation - and where tourists could try their luck on the original wall on a 10m-Strip that would be called the "Daily Spot" and then take pictures of themselves in front of their own Artwork in front of the Original Wall. What a pity - that we came a little late with our idea and that our concept was way "too creative" for a "clean city concept" - look - but don't touch. Since then the Eastside Gallery is officially declared dead by most resident artists. Even if the Original Art is beautiful in itself, it lost everything of it's "berlinish" feeling - the Eastside-Gallery feels more like Munich in Bavaria now, and all that as a big Commercial in front of the brand new O2-Arena-Stadium. Sad but True.

The whole story is better explained with one Image than with words:

2009 eastside-gallery explained 001a full.jpg

Now i'm gonna explain this piece of Artwork as i see it:

The O2-Monster represents the whole City-Cleaning-Commerce-Monster that still wants to promote Berlin as a City of Artists, but at the same time control every single Drop of Paint in this City. Only Commercially accepted Art will be allowed in the brave new o2-World:

2009 eastside-gallery explained 001b o2monster-kills-art.jpg

For Years and Years the Eastside-Gallery was a place for local artists to express themselves - now it's a total locked-down-area with security-guards - AGAIN! Don't dare to touch the wall or even paint it! *sic*

2009 eastside-gallery explained 001c creative-usage-made-illegal.jpg

All that's left is the Freedom to do giant Advertisements and ridicule the meaning of the Wall with Commercials. No Freedom on the Wall - Again. Sad but True.

2009 eastside-gallery explained 001d covering-freedom-with-ads.jpg

Berlin Artists shine on - always creative - always staying in touch with reality and giving the world their own, unique "berlinish" Spin.

The Full Picture again - from a different Angle:

2009 eastside-gallery explained 002a full.jpg

If you Trust Art - then trust us. We know this City. We know its Places. We can find a solution. Maybe a different Shooting-Location - maybe not. The Wall stays a symbol of great power - which we still can use for positive effects - but it remains unclear to me how to compose the picture at the actual location. Maybe i'm gonna take a ride with my bike over there and shoot some photos of how it looks right now - there are always ways to tweak the setting and hack reality so that it matches our DREAM.
